5 FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LIP FILLER SWELLING STAGES

Every wondered what the different lip filler swelling stages look like? You’ve come to the right place. If you have been looking into getting lip fillers and are doing your research about different kinds of filler. At Inside Beauty Spa we work dilligently with you to help create the lip shape of your goals.

How does lip filler work?

Lip filler is an injectable cosmetic treatment, a procedure that works similarly to neuromodulators. However filler is used to create a plump or filling effect to certain parts of the face that lose volume as we age. Neuromodulators such as Botox, Dysport, and Jeuveau are used to paralyze the under muscle to stop the skin from wrinking.

Dermal filler is essentially Hyaluronic Acid (HA) which is found in the body, hency why there is a relatively low chance of developing an allergic reaction to these injections. Once the filler is injected into the lips (a soft gel similar substance) it works to create volume, change the shape of the underlying tissue and alter the overall aesthetic of the lip. “Lip fillers are both safe and truly effective for patients who want that volume and enhanced shape to their lips. As long as you are in the right hands with the right injector,” says Dr. Philipp Franck MD, a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon.

Do Lip Fillers Hurt?

There is little to no pain when it comes to lip fillers. Before doing the treatment, we apply a topical numbing cream. We let the numbing cream sit for a couple of minutes till lips are numb. The Lip Filler we use: “Restylane Kysse,” contains lidocaine. Therefore lidocaine is also a form of numbing anaesthetic agent used especially for lip fillers to reduce any discomfort.

Finally… THE STAGES

  • ONE DAY POST LIP FILLER

The day after your LIP Fillers, it is completely normal to wake up with swelling and an uncomfortable movement feeling. Both, the top lip and bottom lip will be swollen and may appear uneven however once the swelling decreases, the final result will show. .

This swelling is a normal part of lip filler swelling stages and the healing process and should begin to subside during the day. If your care provider instructed you to, you could also use cool compresses on the lips for 15 minutes at a time, once an hour.

In addition, sleeping on your back with your head slightly elevated can help reduce the swelling you experience when you wake up. At the very least, do everything you can to avoid rolling onto your stomach and sleeping on your face.

Not only will this be uncomfortable and likely wake you up, but you may also damage your filler and change the way that it sets.

If you are experiencing any tenderness or sensitivity (which is expected at this stage), Tylenol is often the most effective over-the-counter medication to help manage it.

DAY TWO AFTER LIP FILLER

Swelling will continue to subside and should be entirely gone after the first 48 hours.

DAY THREE

The third day after your lip filler appointment is when you’ll start to get an idea of what your lips will look like. You should start to feel more comfortable as the swelling should be gone, and it should feel much more normal and comfortable eating and talking.
